of course, thats possible. Are you speaking german? I once wrote an "tutorial" about how to set it up. It was posted in a forum thread. It works with iconnect and sting stack. I think at least iconnect should run with magicmac.

To all,
I want to thank Latz and Ektus for the help in my on going situation to get everything sorted out on my setup. So far what is working.

Zweather is up and running once again. Found out that you cant unzip files on a PC or MAC then move the files to the atari.

Highwire 0.3.4 beta 4 is surfing the web for the most part. Will have to check and see if the download capability of highwire works. So, I can just download files directly to the atari.

Emailer is up and running and able to download all e-mail. I plan on trying MyMail out as well. I really like that e-mail program quite a bit.

I have not tried Draconis yet to see if that browser is able to surf using the Draconis stack that I installed. Will be checking that out soon. Any of my MAC's or PC's are able to ping the Falcon. And just this weekend I was able to connect to my Intel Core 2 Quad Mac this weekend with my Falcon060 using Fiffi. Problem is though I was not able to upload any files to my MAC for backup. Any thoughts on that? It seems either direction I go Falcon to other computers or other computers to the Falcon it seems to want to time out on me. Not sure what is going on. I will report back here any new news. Hopefully this will help other people sorting out there own networking issues.

Again thanks for all the help,
Carey

Hi,
you shouldn't unzip on your PC, copy the zipped files
on floppy and unzip it on Falcon with STZIP26 or UNZIP.TTP.
Are you sure that the floppy is ok? And why don't
you transfer the files via ftp?
You don't need Iconnect gateway for MyMail, nor for ftpserver
on Falcon. But there are two versions of ftpserv,
one for StinG and one for MagxNet- check if you use the
correct one.
Litchi is a good GEM ftp client, gapftp.ttp is unix shell-like
and very fast.
Software can be found at (ftp):
kurobox.serveftp.net port 3021
Yes, the enec2k driver works good with CT60.
Your rightclick problem with HighWire sounds strange.

Latz,
That is exactly what I am looking for. At the moment I am having difficulty getting anything onto my Falcon. It seems like when i download stuff onto my PC then unzip it and put it on floppy it gives me errors that the data may be corrupt. Its done that for MagicNET stuff that I have gotten, Highwire stuff and the new Zweather. I cannot download with Highwire since for some reason my right click does not work. I was thinking of trying CAB and seeing if that would download the files directly to the Falcon. I am going to some friends place tonight, but will look into this closer tomorrow and see if I can figure out how to get the files on there reliably. Any suggestions on the MAC or PC side what to use to connect and distribute software via ftp? I am currently using ftpserv to be able to open a connection. I have used MyMail as well as Emailer. Thus the reason for using Iconnect gateway. I have used AtarICQ. Highwire I have used a lot till my system was broken for some reason. I am able to surf with Highwire 0.3.2 at this point. The FTP clients you listed I have never heard of. Are they any good? that driver that you talked about does that work with the CT60?

Thanks,

Sorry I have not looked at this board for a while

Yes there is bugtracker mantis, but it is not set up to deal with HighWire (there is no entry for it)

Since this post, there has been limit discussion on moving CVS repos to G-Forge under the AtariForge.net banner.

HighWire would be perfectly suited to this move as G-Forge also contains a bug tracker per project, and allows file uploads and releases

There was mention of moving to SVN instead of CVS, I dont think this is a very useful move at the moment, as highwire can be developed on limited TOS filesystems, if CVS is kept (and filenames are changed to all uppercase), and on MiNT with the current CVS if an Ext2, Minix, or HostFS is used.

SVN requires a HUGE amount of disk overhead, which is not a problem on most modern setups, and there is a port of the Subversion tool available for MiNT (http://www.radix.net/~kws/mint/), so it should definitely be considered in the future

However, it would be more of an incredible boon (for even non-Atari development projects based in repos), if server side scripts could be setup to allow simultaneous use of CVS, SVN & GIT (and others as requested). It is simple a matter of supplying cross repo commit scripts..

Hi Carey,
it sounds like you are searching for a good Falcon setup,
so here is what i use, perhaps this can help a little bit more:

-MagicNet+Gluestik gateway
-HighWire
-MyMail (http://erikhall.mine.nu/~erikhall/programs/mymail.html)
-FTP clients: "Litchi" or "gapftp.ttp"
-AtarICQ (http://gokmase.atari.org/)

So i don't need any Draconis or Iconnect stuff.
For ftp-transfer i mostly use Ubuntu PC as server
and Falcon as client with transferrates ~350-400 kB/sec.

BTW, there's an updated driver for EtherNEC (for Mint,
but you can rename it from .xif to .mif) at
http://assemsoft.atari.org/ne2k/index.html
You may want to test it, but you have to rename every
"en0" in your config to "ne0".

Hi Carey,

it dosn't matter from which side you initiate the transfer, but the programs on your MAC might be more comfortable to use. You can also set up a ftp-server on the MAC and use Fiffi for file transfer. Just test it out and see which one works best speed- and reliability-wise. I can't tell much in this regard, as I've got SD-Card readers in all my machines and normally use those for file transfer. Transfer rates are just higher that way :-)

In my experience, Newsie does a good job for FTP transfers. MagiCNet sometimes hangs for me with large file transfers, and differently for different client programs.

The APPS folder likely is your C:/GEMSYS/MAGIC/START one. The folder where MagiC looks for applications to be started after the graphical environment is running.

As for the latest highwire, the 4th message in this message tree contains three locations. Those packages should be complete, but you would have to edit the config file to include cache settings and such. Currently, the one one on surceforge is most recent and somewhere between alpha and beta, but all should work.

With best regards

I would like to transfer all my iTunes music to the Falcon and backup all of my files on the Falcon to my MAC. Since I have Time Machine, on the MAC it would really be a good way to back up everything. I have program called Transmit on the MAC and Fiffi on the Falcon. Not sure if it would be better to PUSH or PULL the information. The PC's I really dont have any programs other than the network finder in XP pro but those don't work all that great.
Iconnect and Draconis can be started from the APPs folder? What APPs folder you talking about? I usually don't like starting apps from the desktop. Like it just being all automatic. It would appear that my Iconnect program is in my C:/GEMSYS/MAGIC/NET/ICONN_GW/ right now. I was not sure if this was correct. Not sure where the Draconis GW is. I will do some looking around today. Something strange, is that inside my C:/GEMSYS/MAGIC/START is an Iconnect.app that is like 27,128 bytes or so in bytes then inside the above folder C:/GEMSYS/MAGIC/NET/ICONN_GW/ there is another inconnect.app that is 27,066 bytes. Which one do I need to get rid of? I think the 27,066 was from Etkus zipped file. Also, there is an RSDAEMON.APP or .PRG not sure what it was but it is also inside that C:/GEMSYS/MAGIC/NET/ICONN_GW/ along with the ICONN_GW.CNF which of course is the setup, config file. Once I get everything sorted out I will need to get the latest HIGHWIRE files (does the latest version have the entire HIGHWIRE contents zipped up?). The only reason I ask is that in case I am missing something I would replace my HIGHWIRE setup with this new one if everything worked properly. Then I will test Emailer out and see if I can once again receive e-mail on the Atari. Sorry for all the questions, but, thanks so much for all the help. Maybe someday I will be able to return the help to someone else trying to get there setup to work.

> To Etkus and Latz,
> Thanks for all your help thus far.

You're welcome :-)

> I had a
> working MagicNet setup quite some time ago. But
> have been out of it for so long and kind of bummed
> out since my backups were not getting me to where
> I needed to be. The FTP server seems to be
> working as well. Firefox brings up username and
> password. Type in that information and it brings
> up my U:\ drive which gives me access to
> everything on the hard drive.

Very good.

> I am still somewhat
> puzzled by why the PING tool does not work
> properly on my Falcon. Any thoughts on that?

None, except for a corrupted binary. Will it print the usage options if invoked without parameters?

> Also, where do I put the iconnect.prg and
> icon_set.cnf? I have then located in my
> c:\GEMSYS\MAGIC\NET\ICONN_GW Is this correct?
> What about Draconis gateway as well?

Those you can start from the desktop, or put them in the APPS folder.

With best regards

> To all,
> Well I have great news!!!! I am finally able to
> surf now with Highwire. I have to get the latest
> highwire on and begin some more testing. What I
> do not understand is why it wont ping anything.
> The ping program just says program terminated. I
> guess one final network question. I do have
> ftpserver installed but how do I check to see if I
> can transfer files from my MAC's or PC's to the
> Falcon?

If the ftpserver is installed, configured and running on the falcon, just enter "ftp://192.168.1.100" in the URL line of the webbrowser (firefox, seamonkey, IE, safari, whatever) and see if the Falcon will respond.

> My MAGX_RC.NET is in my C:\GEMSYS\MAGIC\START
> folder. Here are the lines that it has in it.
>
> etc_path E:\etc which is a long filename
> compatible partition

okay.

> ifconfig lo0 addr 127.0.01 up

okay.

> ifconfig en0 addr 192.168.1.100 netmask
> 255.255.255.0 up

okay.

> route add 192.168.1.0

Not okay. The zero at the end should be a 1 to point to the router.

> route add default en0 gw 192.168.1.1

okay.

> My Resolve.conf has 2 nameservers in it. Is this
> correct?? I could see that that may cause some
> issues possibly. here are the lines
>
> domain localhost
> nameserver 127.0.0.1
> domain adelphia.net
> nameserver 192.168.1.1

The localhost part is not needed, unless you've got a nameserver running locally on the Atari. The second entry points to the router, which might or might not work.

> I typed exactly what you requested for the ping
> program using both of the above nameservers and
> the program just terminates. With nothing sent or
> received.

Very strange. Did you try with the ping from my package also?

> I downloaded Etkus complete zipped file of MagxNet
> and opened his resolve.conf and noticed that he
> only has the nameserver with the ISP. I think I
> will change mine to match my nameserver. Should
> be able to find that in the router setup correct?
> Let me look. I found in the router (2) DNS
> servers. Would this be what I need to enter in
> the nameserver part of my resolve.conf file? I
> did to try it and we will see what happens.

Yes, that should be okay.
