Hello everyone,

I need some advice from people in the know. I am not that great at tech stuff. I've been running a CUBASE 2.0 program on an ATARI 520ST for years and the Atari has finally died.

I've been told that I can keep working in the same way by using an EMULATOR with my PC- windows xp and laptop vista. I have no clue how to go about this.
I've downloaded something called the GEMULATOR and when I try to run it I get a notice saying

"Unable to install TOS. Please run the ROM BIOS Setup to configure TOS on your computer"

I have no idea what this means -nor do I know what to do about it. I'm told this thing is very easy to use, but as I mentioned I'm not very computer saavy.

Any help would be much appreciated! :-)

I am an Atari Fan, and I am seriously tired of having to look all over the place to find software and/or source code locations for Atari computers and consoles. Everyone seems to have their own little center of the world to do whatever. This is counterproductive.

I have worked out a deal (FREE) with a fellow Atari fan friend of mine that just happens to be the senior network engineer for a major ISP here in San Diego, CA. He is willing to place a server online FOR FREE to house source code, with source code control, a software repository, and even a central download space for vendors (vendors will not be charged if they keep the site server owners "stocked" with their up to date goods; contact me for more info on that), a forum, a blog, and anything else the community would like, within reason, of course. He'd even be happy to house various web sites dedicated to Atari, provided they give a service to the community. There would be no ads, other than for Atari vendors participating, and would be housed on San Diego's fastest peering network in a cooled server room on a secure dedicated Linux server with plenty of storage space, not a virtual machine.

If this is something you would be interested in, then let me know, and please spread this news around if you like the idea. We would be happy to have international web sites as well. We want this to encompass as much of the Atari universe as possible.

This woud be long lived. He has servers that have been online for well over a decade. He's not going anywhere.

Introducing the Atari Music Network! (1 reply)

From sequencing Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk concerts in the 80's to tearing up the dance floors at the 2010 Blip Festival, Atari's reputation as a music monster machine has persisted for a quarter of a century. For MIDI synth enthusiasts, the Atari was and still is the ultimate bridge between man, music, and machine. For chip musicians, the Atari's untapped sonic palette has yet to paint the ever-expanding canvas of 8-bit music. But the Atari was more than just a great computer - it defined an entire era that included synthesists and chiptuners from the Amiga, Commodore, ZX Spectrum, NES, PC, and MAC communities. AMN welcomes and celebrates all vintage digital musicians no matter what their computer - as long as it's slightly yellowed, of course!

The Atari Music Network (AMN) aims to:

• Provide free webspace for all vintage computer musicians to create professional pages they can upload their music and videos to.
• Stimulate social interaction between vintage computer musicians and developers on AMN's Forum
• Encourage ex-developers to update and redistribute commercial software or release it into the public domain.

Specific to Atarians

• Advocate and sponsor Atari based musicians in the MIDI & 8-bit music scene.
• Catalog and review all known Atari music software and hardware.
• Collect and offer hard to find Atari warez (abandoneware only).
• Collect and offer sysex sound banks and software utilities for MIDI synths.

Greetings!

I request some help since I can't find the solution...
How could one use the built-in synthesizer (YM2149 ?) of the ST to produce the sounds I play with my midi keyboard?

I've tried with cubase 3.0, "in" reacts properly to the keystrokes, reading a midi file activates the "out" gauge as instruments play, but the computer produces no sound*... sad. Any clue or tool I should know about?

* And it's not a speaker issue ;-)

Thanks for your time...

Hi to all,

in 1987 I developed a programme for accounting using my ATARI ST and GFA Basic. Since year 2001 I have been using the programme on my PC and Steem as emulator.

I was very happy. Everything worked fine like using my Atari ST. Even printing with some specialities was no problem (e.g. boldface, less line space, smaller font size).

But about 2 years ago Steem changed the printout. All formats are vanished. I can not exactly say what I changed in the meantime (Windows 98 -> XP, Steem 2.6 -> 3.2), but today I route my printings to a file, format it with MS-Word and print it out. But this way is not very efficient.

Does anybody have an idea, what settings (with Steem or XP) I have to do, that I reobtain the formats of my printouts?

Thank you in advance.

Hi guys,

Firstly, sorry for going off topic like this, but I figured some of you might wish to help a fellow atari user out! ;)

Me and some of my buddies from work joined a competition between different work places in our town. The whole fun consist of ppl normally not being musicians performing a set of 3 songs. Now, we did not make it to the final directly, but with some (a lot of it, actually!) help we might have a shot of winning an online voting - which would give us a wild card to the finals :)

And voting ends on April 30th....

Feel like helping us out? Please..? :)

If so, go to this page and scroll down to the bottom of the page and select "First Clas" in the submit form, and then press the button named "Rösta".

Now, vote away! And by all means, tell your friends to lend a hand too!

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Hi all;

I am Djordje Herceg from Novi Sad, Serbia (formerly Yugoslavia). About 15 years ago I wrote a music program for the Atari ST called MFP Music 1.25.

It's been a long time since then. I sold my ST and all the floppies.

A couple of days ago a friend told me that he has seen someone mention MFP Music on a forum, and got my curiosity working.

Please, if someone has my program (MFP Music 1.25), could you please send it to me by email? I'd like to see have it again.

I might even be able to remember the command line syntax for defining instruments. It used to be something like ENV, ENN, ENT (similar to envelope commands in Locomotive Basic on the Amstrad CPC).

Thanks in advance,

Hello!
Quite a while I’m working on my product “Poppy and Rose” which you can download it here: [www.download.com]
The game is made in the program language Delphi 6 and I hope that it will take your attention.
Please, after you try the game and study it a little bit, if you can answer the following questions:
-	How can I find a video game tester, the best case is that to be some volunteer who will test the game and it will give me critics about the game.
-	How is your opinion for the essential value of the game?
-	What do you think about the UI of the game (it is made in Delphi 6), can I make it better and can I get some suggestions of how can I do that?
-	In which category will you put this game (maybe puzzle!)?
-	Is there any company that in cooperation with me can commercialize the game?
-	I think that playing on this video game in network can be a real challenge! Do you think same?

Thank you,

We have opensource version of TOS (EmuTOS), MiNT, AES (XaAES), VDI (fvdi), Desktop (Teradesk).

What are the chances for porting those to a new platform such a generic x86 hardware or maybe PPC (like Genesi Efika)? We can have a new native platform for the future. a JIT 680x0 emulator could be included to provide backwards compatibility -- much the way Apple migrate from 680x0 to PPC and then to Intel.

I am certain that a $99 Efika board (motherboard, sound, LAN, USB, PPC, and 128M RAM) would be faster than any previous Atari or TOS Clone box.

Seriously, how much of TOS / MiNT is really tied to the legacy hardware. Much of it is C.

The Coldfire project is nice, but I think it still limits us to 680x0 era,

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
