when I do finally get HW to
compile I will be looking
immediately at the following:
1) php (script) cacheing issues
2) protocol 6
3) SSL (if thats not protocol 6)

for scripting, either "force"
HW to always get a new version
of the file based on its
extension, or add an "intelligent"
option somewhere. A lot of
options are only configurable
in the .CFG file, so in the
beginning maybe just add a
list of extensions to "cache
intelligently"

in other browsers this is
done by querying the size of
the file, and if it has not
changed, chances are it is
still the same.. we will see..

the "protocol 6" may or may
not be SSL, but it is required
to do "basic authentication"
which is required by one of
my other PHP projects
[navphp.sf.net]

I have already had a look at
SSL in "links", its "way simple"
to add to the code, although
that may depend on OpenSSL
being compiled against, as
it will "bloat" the code
somewhat

an SLB and/or LGD for OpenSSL
might be the way to go after
the initial inclusion of SSL
has been successfully completed

this will allow other projects
to take advantage of SSL,
especially since SSL itself
is going through some "upgades".
In which case "slight" abstraction
would be a wise thing

NOTE: this may be the way to
add other protocol handshaking
to a project like AtarICQ,
or one of the GAIM based
clients, as Yahoo Messenger
have recently started using
a heavily encripted protocol
wrapped in SSL

I'll look at some of the
other library ports to see
whats invovle with creating
a PureC/AHCC version..

OK, once thats done, I do
have a list of other DOM
related issue to look at,
but if there is anything in
particular that someone wants
fixing, adding or update,
let me know..

Hi all,

One thing I have been annoyed by for a longer time, is the way HW removes popups as soon as the mouse pointer is moved outside of the popup. At least for me, this results in numerous occasions with accidently closed popup menus. It is not the end of the world, but it is an issue that keeps being (very!) annoying.

Am I missing some obvious way to turn this puzzling behaviour off? If not, would someone please consider adding such a setting?
entirely practical.
I was posting to a forum page that has lots of smileys
on the page. After each image is loaded the page is re-drawn.
The images are small files and I wondered if the re-draw
could be delayed until, say 10-20k had been downloaded.
This would speed up the process.

I know that HW tried to give an early view of the page but
such small images don't really add very much to the page
and delaying until 2 or 3 have been downloaded wouldn't hurt.

Hi All,

As I just visited a web site concerning an huge multiplayers adventure game on Internet, where an Atari client exists!
(see www.tamar.net/e_english ) I fell on a page with a lot of frames and, of course, certain of them could'nt be displayed plenty.

So I just thought about a very useful features that I don't think even be seing on any browser.
Well the idea is that if HW programmers can do it, putting a new icon on the toolbar, which will be active in case that actual page is a FRAMES page.
A click on this icon will display the same current page, in a new window, with frames but inside them, only a "a href TARGET='_BLANK'" tag which link is the frame html page, will be inside.

I hope you understand the idea... My english isnot always perfect so...

Anyway I think this will be a good feature.

What do you think about that ?

it also may implement the XML LDG librairy for parsing XML document (and not have to re-write this heavy librairy).

Hello everybody,

For me, the very best of all the web browser is Opera!
It's better than FireFox and Netscape too. (I place Netscape in 2nd position).

One thing it exist on Opera and Netscape 8 and doesn't exist to other, is than every new window is display in the main opera windows!
Meaning "onglet" in French, you have simply a window and every web site visited may be acceded clicking on the corresponding tag!

If HW implement this feature, it will be among the best Web Browser in the market!

Been having major problems with the <pre> tag inserting extra lines above and below in FireFox, so I altered my GFA page to use a few lines with the <span> tag. Now it looks odd in HighWire. ;-)))

Hi all,
<br>
<br>
I'd like to see some visibility enhacement feature in hw, at least as long as background images are unavailable:
There should be a setting &quot;minimum contrast&quot; that checks the background colour and the text colour (for both texts and links) and alters the text color if the contrast is too weak for visibility. So in case of white text on white background, set the text colour to black.
<br>
As Dan proposed on ICQ today, there could also be a setting to ignore text colours in general, while positioning is still active. But in that case, not only text colours but also background colours should be disregarded.
<br>
<br>
With best regards
Ekkehard

I can safely say that hw is my default browser on the Milan. I've been using
it for months without reverting to CAB.

A few days ago I opened a link in a mail and CAB started. I think it is using
the env var. This isn't a problem but what I did notice was that hw is still
lacking background images.

So many web pages look so dull without the correct background image and
some are hard to read due to a poor choice of font and background colours.

Hello

I found a JavaScript interpreter here: [www.njs-javascript.org]
Any chance to adjust it to Highwire?

<< NJS is an independent implementation of the JavaScript language developed by Netscape and standardized by ECMA. It is designed to be re-entrant, extendible, fast, and programmable. >>

Are there any Atari browsers capable of POSTing a file to the web server ?

eg.
FORM METHOD=POST ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data"

It looks simple to pop-up a file selector but I assume there is a lot more
involved in sending the data so I don't know how easy this is to
implement.

It's not a feature I use often, mainly because I don't think any Atari
browsers could do it. It would be very nice to see it though.

I''m not a (good) coder, but was thinking about how feasible it would be to introduce a window blocker ( to block pop-up, pop-unders etc.), but like PC blockers, allowing it to be over-ruled by the user if needed, and turned off/on from the menu bar. It would be extremely useful, especially on slower system as lots of pop-up or poip-under adverts really slow down page loading with all the graphic files for the ads that get loaded.
