Hello all,
I have had some nagging issues with highwire and wondering if anyone can help me to solve it. I am currently running Macic 6.2 with Jinnee 2.5 on a Falcon CT60 at 95 mhz. Whenever I startup Highwire 0.3.2 which was the last available download, it seems to be not loading images in and eventually gives me a No Route to Host error in Highwire. I have been through My MagicNet setup and cannot see anything that would explain the issue, but I am sure I am missing something. Can anyone zip up the latest Highwire (the entire package) and send it to me? My address is falcon060@roadrunner.com. Once I get this running I would love to be a tester of the latest releases if at all possible.

Hi there,

I want to develop for highwire - but the whole environment seems to be in a worse situation.
I have an working 0.3.2 highwire development environment, but i don't wan't to develop for such an old version.

1. The wikilink is dead: [highwire.atari-users.net]
2. The webbased cvs browser doesn't allow me to get the newest sources...:

Error: Export failure (exit status 1), output:
cvs export: failed to create lock directory for `/home/cvs/server-root/atariforge/highwire' (/home/cvs/server-root/atariforge/highwire/#cvs.lock): Permission denied
cvs export: failed to obtain dir lock in repository `/home/cvs/server-root/atariforge/highwire'
cvs [export aborted]: read lock failed - giving up

anyone knows how to download via the real cmd line cvs client?

3. There is no download for the newest sources on the main page.
4. Because the wiki is down, this document: [highwire.atari-users.net] should contain cvs access info, at least.
5. I'm waiting for developers maillinglist approval - but nothing happens.
6. This file is corrupted: [highwire.atari-users.net]

well, after lots of mucking
around, and being told "it
will work out of the box",
I finally have AHCC working
so of course my first choice
as a test was HighWire..

From the first ever time I
used debug on CP/M when I was
maybe 13, I remember that the
keys to compiling programs
are:
1) correct include paths
2) required libraries

OK so it took me only a couple
of shots to get it right. The
hardest part was figuring out
that you need to "Select.."
you project, not "Open PR*"
it..

Now the bad news. NOT from
the CVS, but from the zipped
source downloaded from the
HighWire website:

the offending line:

typedef enum { FALSE = (1!=1), TRUE = (1==1) } BOOL;

This is not good, a basic
file, fundamental to the
project, and "its broken".

No wounder there has not been
much progress on highwire,
(or many other Atari ST projects).

I am using AHCC on AFROS live
CD with the AFROS-update patch
(it just adds some "nice" stuff)

I will try the gcc build later
but I dont expect much, as
there is a problem with CAT
and using "configure" scripts
(which I see HW does not have)

Anyway, anyone interested in
the future of HighWire can
check out the "new" update to
AFROS 8.12 LiveCD

Part of this update is to
allow "on the spot" development
of programs like HighWire,
where all the relavent dev
tools and libraries are already
set up, you just need to add
a source tree, from CVS, SVN,
or ZIP

I can say that compiling
ARAnyM is pain free, as long
as your OS supports the options
you are trying to "configure"

Anyway, I just though some
peeps might be interested
in "the state of things" ATM..

Not the best start, but if
you know how to "research",
its fixable

PeterS: how goes the CTRL-A thing?
any chance of a new release?

Observation:
I have noticed HW resets the
textarea text when you click
anywhere, it does move the
cursor to the "clicked" position,
AFTER it has zero'd the textarea,
rather painful sometimes..

Update:
I'm almost ready to start dev
work, no long now, just a bit
more testing and a few more
scripts (bash)

Question:
Is HW using the Mantis Bugtraker
yet.

I am posting this in a new thread so that it might get noticed.

I have made some changes to HW. They are quite minor and revolve around
the keyboard handling in forms. Users of non-English keyboards might now be
able to type the extra characters in their alphabet. I cannot test this
so it would be nice to know if it is working.

This change is not my original goal, I am trying to improve the editing
features in forms. It seemed like a simple task but my C skills and
GEM knowledge are fairly basic but hopefully I will get better with
practice and with better understanding of the existing HW code.

What I have done is to borrow some ideas from QED and have used the
NKCC lib part of CFLIB to handle the keycodes.

I am now trying to get CVS access so that all my changes can be uploaded
into the repository.

Once that is done and I am happy that I've not broken any code I will
tidy up some of the code in the forms area and try to make it even more
like QED so that I can add some more editing features.

I would like to say that the code is well written and if I was better
at C it would probably be a doddle to follow. I just need more comments
and I dislike K&R formatting.

Please don't ask me to tackle CSS or page rendering because I don't know
enough about that stuff.

One bit that I did look at a year ago was the sound functions. I am pretty
sure that they don't work. Has anyone else noticed this ?

Hello,

It seems to me that nothing more occurs regarding HW. It's a pity, as it was a very promising software.
Well, I might be answered that I ought to join the programmers instead of boring.
Frankly, if only I could, I would certainly have done it.
The fact is, the flight we were promised long ago seems long to take-off, while the cab still goes its way.
And the worst, is that noone knows what is currently happening. Maybe all programmers are too busy and can't afford spending one single second for HW. Or, maybe, Bill Gates bought the rights and put the sources on the bottom of the pile.
I think some news from time to time would be kind. Even if it's from the coder saying he spent the night with his sweet rather than coding - well, we all are human beeings, aren't we ? -.
Just hope my sense of humour will be understood, and that I didn't mistranslate what I thought...

i found the latest beta of Highwire on the source page (HW081117.ZIP,
with extended paste-buffer). Works great, now i can write forum-threads
offline and paste and post them in a very short time (i only have a
modem connection). Thank you, Peter!!!

I hope that HighWire development is going on-it's my favourite Atari
browser. If anybody needs german resource file for HW 0.3.3 ß9, send
a email.

Solutions for MagiC Mac? (14 replies)

I spent the last hours with searching for solutions for using HighWire with MagiC Mac (MacOS 9.1). I´m using an ADSL Line behind a router (sometines cable Modem which should make no difference).

Is there anybody out there using the same configuration? It seems that there is no chance to get MacSTIP anymore, and anyway often it´s written that it doesn´t work with MacOS > than 9.0.4

None of the .ovl files provided with HW works for me. The latest NVDI is installed.

If there is a solution, please tell me exactly what to do.

Hi All,

sadly I'm still too busy to do contingous serious work on HighWire But this doesn't
mean the project abandoned, devl is only slowed down.

For those having patches:
Post it to the maililing list!

If your patch is suitable I will integrate it ASAP
else we can discuss via list where it lacks.

It was quite easy to enlarge the paste buffer but it looks like the
original function was patched-in.

I'd like to get CVS access or at least have someone review the change
and submit it.

I wonder if we can persuade some more people to get involved ? I had a look at some of the code myself, I wanted to fix one of the bugs but the C is a little bit beyond my ability. Maybe with some help I could contribute ?

Highwire is too good to leave to rust.

I just tried to post an example of an image displayed
in HW and got a data error from the form. It happened
several times. So I can't show an example.

When I compile my own HW, it doesn't render some images
properly, not all just a few. They are stretched horizontally.

A few months ago I tried to fix it by re-installing
various image libraries but it didn't help.

Any ideas ?

I have made a small change to my local copy of HW.

I added "New window" to the File menu to do the same
as Ctrl-N

It's a one line change to aei.c in handle_menu:
case M_NEW: new_hwWind ("", cfg_StartPage, TRUE); break;

and a change to the rsc file.

Is this wanted ?
Could someone tell me how to add it to CVS please.

Hi there,

as you might already know I have included HighWire in AFROS ( [aranym.org] ) recently because I believe that a web/HTML browser should be a basic part of a modern operating system. In the latest AFROS update (0.9.5-2) I added DejaVu TrueType fonts - check out how HighWire can look like here: [joy.sophics.cz]

I hope you'll keep improving HighWire (JavaScript/CSS) so even more Atari users can explore and enjoy the online world :-)

Hello,

According the info I found,

- Support added for web access via a proxy server.
This can be controlled by using the keyword
HTTP_PROXY =
in the highwire.cfg file.

When I have a proxy like [proxy.net.be] with port 8080
Do I need to add the following line :

HTTP_PROXY = proxy.net.be 8080
or
HTTP_PROXY = http:/ /proxy.net.be 8080
or
HTTP_PROXY = http:/ /proxy.net.be:8080

(Added without the space between the two / /)

I want to run highwire under magicnet1.3.9b and magic 5.0.4, on my Falcon with the netusbee.
I can already ping to myself, the DNS of my ISP, and domainnames.
When I start HW with the mintnet ovl, I get an '68000 error' . Don't know why.

Hi.
I have encountered probs when using Highwire in TT-high (1280x960 b/w).
Often the background image is that dark, that the page or part of it is displayed black on black, which is not too nice thinking about readability. ;-)
I think it would be nice to force Highwire to use black on white in monochrome if possible.

First, I know nothing about CSS but I was just experimenting
with pages produced by Google that display the search
results in a narrow column instead of the correct width.

Does HW handle the "em" width setting ? I tried using various
values but the page looks the same.

Change to a percentage and the column width does change.

Problem with colours/ colour palette under MiNT (6 replies)

Hi.
I used Highwire with MagiC/ Jinnee for a long time.
Now I thought it's time to have a try with MiNT as well.
I tried various configs on my Falcon since then:

MagiC 6.2/ Jinnee 2.5
MagiC 6.2/ Gemini 1.a
MagiC 6.2/ Teradesk 3.83
FreeMiNT 1.15.12/ Geneva 007/ Gemini 1.a
Freemint 1.15.12/ Geneva 007/ Teradesk 3.83
Freemint 1.15.12/ Gemini 1.a
FreeMiNT 1.15.12/ Teradesk 3.83

FreeMiNT is CrippleMiNT version.

Maybe some more configs - I'm not too certain about it.
On my other Falcon I successfully tried Geneva/ Gemini.

All system configs word in themself, but the problem is Highwire running on MiNT.
On every MiNT setup Highwire messes up the colours or is not able to use the colour palette. Cab always is able to handle colours properly, Highwire is on MagiC but not on MiNT. Just wondering: Not sure if MagiC/ Teradesk worked...

Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Hello,

I tried to checkout the CVS but login is aborted when I enter the 'cvsanon' password.

"cvs [login aborted]: connect to atariforge.net(216.240.173.22):2401 failed: Connection refused"

What am I doing wrong?
